From the Fundaci\u00f3 Ferrer de M\u00fasica, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Raquel Garc\u00eda Tom\u00e1s as Artistic Director. The composer takes over from Jes\u00fas Rueda, to whom we express our deepest gratitude for his commitment, dedication, and invaluable contribution to the foundation over 20 years. Garc\u00eda Tom\u00e1s\u2019s first responsibility will be to lead the organisation and serve as a member of the jury of the XLIII Reina Sof\u00eda Prize in Music Composition, the decision of which will be announced at the end of February.<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Raquel Garc\u00eda Tom\u00e1s<\/strong> (1984) is a composer specialized in interdisciplinary creation and holds a doctorate from the Royal College of Music in London. In 2020, she received the National Music Award, granted by the Spanish Ministry of Culture, and in 2024 she was honored with the National Culture Award from CONCA \u2013 Generalitat de Catalunya.<\/p>

Her music has been performed on stages like the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Auditorio Nacional de M\u00fasica in Madrid, L\u2019Auditori in Barcelona, the Palau de la M\u00fasica Catalana, Wigmore Hall in London, Queen Elizabeth Hall (Southbank Centre), Philharmonie Luxembourg, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wiener Konzerthaus, Musikverein in Vienna, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, Konserthuset in Stockholm, and M\u00fcpa Budapest, among others.<\/p>

She is the author of the multi-award-winning operas Je suis narcissiste<\/em><\/strong> (2018) and Alexina B.<\/em><\/strong> (2023). For the latter, she received the Gold Medal from the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the 2024 Max Award for Best Musical Composition for a Stage Production, and the 2024 Al\u00edcia Award in the Authorship category. She is currently working on her new opera, Fire of Fires<\/em><\/strong> (Leonardo Grant 2024), alongside various commissions for chamber and symphonic music.<\/p>
